Are you looking for a memorable mother-daughter getaway? If so, I've got a fantastic experience to share with you. Recently, we had the pleasure of escaping to my parent's cabin near Happy Jack, and the highlight of our trip was a day filled with paddle boarding at McHood Park Clear Creek reservoir. Plus, we explored the charming town of Winslow. Join me on this adventure as we explore the beauty of nature and a piece of history.

Paddle Boarding at McHood Park Clear Creek Reservoir

One sunny day, the weather was so beautiful that we couldn't resist packing a delicious picnic lunch and heading out to the McHood Park Clear Creek reservoir, along with our furry companion, Annie. Surprisingly, it was a Wednesday afternoon, but there were plenty of people enjoying the water. We eagerly unloaded our paddleboards, beach chair, Annie, and our lunch.

Once we were all set up on the paddleboards, our journey down the reservoir began. The majestic rocky cliff sides of the reservoir framed the scene, creating a stunning backdrop to our adventure. The sound of gentle ripples and laughter filled the air as we shared the water with several other kayakers and paddleboarders, all of us relishing the tranquil surroundings.

Annie, our adventurous dog, had her own plans. She decided to take a spontaneous dip and jumped off my daughter's paddleboard, making a fun splash. With a lot of effort, I managed to get her back on my board, all while balancing on my beach chair!

As we continued our journey, we were surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. The rocky cliffs rose majestically on both sides, with the calm waters below us. Birds flew overhead, which captivated Annie by the beauty, and her enthusiastic presence added to the joy of the moment.

We found a picturesque spot to have lunch, perched on a remote rocky shoreline, surrounded by the stillness of nature. As we savored our sandwiches and fruit, the magnificent scenery served as the perfect backdrop. The deep blue water, the whispering breeze, and the distant laughter of fellow adventurers created a truly serene experience.

After our meal, we continued our journey down the reservoir, and our eyes widened as we saw people leaping off the rocks into the clear waters below. The exhilarating sight was a testament to the reservoir's allure, offering both tranquility and adventure in equal measure.

Exploring Winslow

As we were packing up, preparing to head back to the cabin, we made an impromptu decision to drive into Winslow. Little did we know that we were in for a pleasant surprise. We noticed a billboard that looked like a giant postcard, and on it, it seemed as if Elvis himself had left his mark. The postcard featured his signature and a message: "I'm having a great time visiting Winslow. We visited the standin' on the corner park, wish you were here, Elvis."

Winslow is a quaint and charming town, a place that seems to have been preserved in time. As we drove down the main street, we encountered their high school mascot, the Bulldog, standing proudly on the corner, a symbol of community pride. The town is also located along the iconic Route 66, adding to its nostalgic charm.

The highlight of our visit was La Posada, a historic hotel known as the "last great railroad hotel." Stepping into this beautifully restored gem felt like stepping back in time. The elegance and history that permeated the hotel were palpable. The walls whispered stories of a bygone era, and the atmosphere was one of timeless beauty. It's a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone looking to immerse themselves in a slice of Americana.

In conclusion, if you're looking for a day of outdoor adventure and a touch of history, consider exploring McHood Park, Clear Creek Reservoir, and the delightful town of Winslow. It's an experience that promises fun, relaxation, and a touch of nostalgia all in one.
